“HOUSE’S IMPASSE CAUSE THE FIRE” REP. MOIMA BRIGGS MENSAH BLAMES HOR LEADERSHIP FOR FIRE OUTBREAK.
Bong County, Liberia: Bong County six district Representative, Moima Briggs Mensah, has blamed the House of Representatives for the recent fire at the Capitol Building, citing deep divisions and failed leadership as root causes of the disaster.
Representative Mensah expressed her frustration with the current state of Liberia’s first branch of government, describing the fire as a symbol of the Legislature’s dysfunction. “This fire incident within the Capitol Building is a devastating symbol of the consequences of our divisions and failed leadership,” she said.
“As a member of the 55th Legislature, I am deeply frustrated and ashamed of the current impasse that has left this institution vulnerable and brought us to this unfortunate and dangerous moment.” She described the incident as more than a mere accident, calling it a reflection of the toll political power struggles have taken on Liberia’s governance. “This fire is not just an accident,” she stated.
“It is a stark reflection of the toll that political strife and power struggles have taken on the very foundation of our governance.” The Bong County, District #6 Lawmaker directly blamed the ongoing conflict between the majority bloc, led by Hon. Koon, and the minority group, led by Hon. Koffa, for neglecting critical maintenance of the Capitol Building.
“Had the House not been preoccupied with personal battles for dominance, we would have prioritized much-needed renovations and oversight to prevent such an event,” Mensah said. “Instead, our inability to resolve our differences has left the building in disrepair and the Liberian people suffering from yet another symbol of disunity and mismanagement.”
She criticized the 55th Legislature for bringing itself into disrepute and irrelevance, emphasizing that the fire serves as a painful reminder of the harm caused by political impasse. “I implore both sides to find reason, come together, and work toward resolving this crisis for the sake of the Liberian people,” she urged.
“Liberia deserves better leadership, better governance, and the restoration of faith in our institutions.” Representative Mensah highlighted her decision to remain neutral in the conflict, reaffirming her commitment to her district and the nation. “I am glad I chose to remain neutral through these troubling times, as my loyalty lies solely with my district and the people of Liberia,” she concluded. “Liberia Deserves Better.
