Liberia’s Drugs Fight- Seized Cocaine Worth over US$300 Million Destroyed
July 30,2026, Careysburg: In a major fight against drugs and narcotic substances in Liberia, the Joint Security on Thursday destroyed two major cocaine consignments seized in separate anti-narcotics operations, with a combined estimated street value exceeding US$336 million.
The mass destruction exercise took place at a designated site in Forzohn, District #1, Margibi County, adjacent Careysburg where authorities publicly set at blast a total of 4,208.6 kilograms of cocaine. The largest consignment, weighing 3,971 kilograms and valued at approximately US$317.68 million, was seized in Duazon, Margibi County in July.
Additional consignment weighing 237.6 kilograms and valued at more than US$19 million was intercepted at Roberts International Airport (RIA) in June during a major drug trafficking investigation.
Security officials described the destruction as a significant milestone in Liberia’s fight against transnational drug trafficking and organized crime. They reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preventing Liberia from being used as a transit point for illicit narcotics, warning that law enforcement agencies will continue to intensify efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.
Analyst described the public burning of the narcotics as security forces determination to combat drug-related crimes and protect communities from the devastating social and economic effects of illicit substances. Authorities also called for greater public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking across the country.
