China has called for stronger international media cooperation to promote mutual understanding, maintain peace and advance development, as 23 Liberian journalists participate in a media communication capacity-building seminar in Beijing.
“In today’s world, the media have a very important role to play in promoting mutual understanding, maintaining peace and advancing common development” Chang Jin, a second level counselor in the Department of International Cooperation at China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), said.
Chang made the statement while addressing the opening of the seminar, sponsored by China’s Ministry of Commerce and organized by the Research and Training Institute under the NRTA.
The seminar, which runs from October 14 to 28, 2026, brings together Liberian journalists to learn about China’s path to modernization, media development and international communication.
In his address, Chang discussed China’s development experience, highlighting advances in science and technology, manufacturing, space exploration and other sectors. He also outlined President Xi Jinping’s vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Chang described Chinese modernization through five areas: modernization for a huge population, common prosperity for all, material and cultural-ethical advancement, harmony between humanity and nature, and peaceful development.
He also addressed the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI), calling for openness, international cooperation, responsible management of risks and stronger global governance.
On relations between China and Liberia, Chang highlighted existing media cooperation, recalling China’s assistance in repairing the Liberia Broadcasting System radio station in 2008 and cooperation between China Central Television (CCTV) and Liberia’s national broadcasting organization.
He further noted that approximately 40 Liberian participants had attended training programs in China between 2014 and the opening of the current seminar.
Chang said the NRTA remained committed to cooperation with international media partners based on equality and mutual benefit, expressing hope that the seminar would provide an opportunity to exchange knowledge and strengthen ties between the two countries.
Gao Xi, Chief Editor of the NRTA’s Research and Training Institute, welcomed the Liberian delegation under the slogan “Hello China, Hello Liberia”
“Make this seminar a family reunion,” Gao said, encouraging participants to feel at home, share their experiences, ask questions and learn from one another.
Speaking on behalf of the Liberian delegation, team leader Mr. Bai Best emphasized the importance of learning from experienced journalists and building professional relationships.
“Our delegation might seem young, but we stand on the shoulders of many great journalists who have paid the price” he said
The seminar covers China’s modernization and media communication, global communication trends in the digital age, reporting practices, constructive journalism, news literacy and efforts to address disinformation.
Journalists from Liberia are also expected to visit sites showcasing China’s experiences in digital innovation, green development and rural revitalization.
