March 29, 2025

Monrovia: The House Joint Concessions Review Committee has summoned the senior management of Bea Mountain to appear under contempt charges for impeding legislative functions.

Recently, the joint committee held the Management of Bao Chico Mining Company under contempt for what the committee described as impeding legislative functions.

According to the committee, Bao Chico Management was asked to appear before the committee and present a comprehensive document about the company’s operation in the concession area for a review process, but Bao Chico failed questioning the company’s accountability and transparency status.

Like Bao Chico, Bea Mountain Management was instructed to provide specific information regarding its operations within the concession area according to House Joint Committee Chair Rep Foday Fahnbulleh Emphasizing that the committee is committed to thoroughly reviewing all commitments made by the company to ensure that the people benefit from their resources.

Bea Mountain had requested to postpone the scheduled legislative hearing from Friday, March 28, 2025, to the first week of May 2025. However, the committee denied the request and subsequently filed a motion to summon the senior management for contempt. This action follows a statement made by the company’s Executive Director, who indicated conflicting statements regarding whether the General Manager and Country Manager were out of the country.

The public hearing has been re-scheduled for Friday, April 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the House first floor conference room. The hearing was witnessed by LRA, LEITI, Mines and Energy and the National Bureau of Concession.

Holding its first public hearing recently with representatives from Bea Mountain Mining Company, it was established that the company failed to submit several essential documents required for a thorough review of its concession agreement which resulted into the committee deferring the public hearing to March 28, 2025.  Bea Mountain Mining company was required to present a comprehensive document about the company’s concession agreement during the next hearing

The committee remains committed to upholding the interests of the Liberian people and ensuring that all companies operating within the country abide by the terms of their agreements.
