Monrovia: Partners implementing the PeaceGen Liberia Project are participating in the 2026 Annual Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Forum, a two-day national engagement focused on strengthening youth participation in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and social cohesion across Liberia.

The forum provides an important platform for PeaceGen partners to engage with young leaders and stakeholders while highlighting ongoing efforts to advance youth-led peacebuilding initiatives in the country.

Convened by the Liberia Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security and chaired by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the forum brings together 40 young leaders from Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Grand Cape Mount, Bomi, Margibi, and Bong Counties.

The engagement seeks to promote dialogue, peer learning, collaboration, and coordinated action among youth actors, government institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners in support of Liberia’s National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security.

During the opening session of the forum, a key featured presentation of the PeaceGen Liberia project was delivered by AGIECHIE COMFORT BAYSAH of KTK.

She introduced participants to the project’s objectives, achievements, and ongoing interventions aimed at strengthening sustainable peace and social cohesion across Liberia.

The presentation highlighted PeaceGen’s efforts to promote youth-led peacebuilding, reconciliation, intergenerational dialogue, community engagement, and inclusive participation in peace and security processes.

It also underscored the collaborative role of implementing partners, including the Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FEJAL), in advancing project activities and supporting young people to become active contributors to peacebuilding and community development.

Throughout the forum, FEJAL and other PeaceGen partners were engaging in discussions and learning sessions on key issues related to peacebuilding, conflict prevention, youth leadership, strategic communication, and advocacy.

The engagement provides an opportunity to share experiences, exchange best practices, and strengthen partnerships that support the implementation of Liberia’s Youth, Peace and Security agenda.

The forum is attended by youth leaders, students, government representatives, civil society organizations, development partners, and international stakeholders, including representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, the Mano River Union Parliament, the European Union, the German Embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other institutions supporting youth development and peacebuilding efforts in Liberia.

Speaking during the opening session, stakeholders emphasized the critical role of young people in advancing peace, national development, and social cohesion. They called for increased investment in youth leadership, meaningful participation in decision-making processes, and stronger collaboration among institutions working to promote peace and security across the country.

The forum featured presentations on the proposed Youth Peace and Security Resource Center, as well as capacity-building sessions on the Fundamentals of Youth, Peace and Security, Liberia’s National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security: From Policy to Practice, and Advocacy and Strategic Communication for effective implementation of the YPS agenda.

The Youth Forum will close up on the development recommendations and practical action points aimed at strengthening youth leadership, enhancing coordination among stakeholders, and advancing sustainable peacebuilding initiatives at both national and community levels.

The outcomes are expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to ensure that young people remain central actors in building a peaceful, inclusive, and resilient Liberia.
