President Boakai Reaffirms Liberia’s Commitment to China, Pledges Deeper Bilateral Cooperation.

Monrovia: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the People’s Republic of China, pledging deeper bilateral cooperation in key sectors while reaffirming the country’s adherence to the One-China Policy.
The President made the commitment on Friday, June 26, 2026, during celebrations marking the 105th anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at the Chinese Embassy in Congo Town.
The event brought together government officials, diplomats and invited guests to commemorate the occasion and celebrate the enduring friendship between Liberia and China.
In his remarks, President Boakai described Liberia’s relationship with China as one built on mutual friendship, mutual respect and mutual benefit, emphasizing that both countries continue to pursue shared aspirations for peace, development and prosperity.
He praised China’s remarkable transformation over the past century, describing the country as a major contributor to global development whose sustained economic growth and modernization have significantly improved the lives of its people.
According to President Boakai, China’s development journey continues to inspire many developing countries, including Liberia, as they strive to achieve inclusive economic growth and national transformation.
Reaffirming Liberia’s foreign policy position, President Boakai said his government remains firmly committed to the One-China Policy.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to the One-China Policy, recognizing the People’s Republic of China as the sole legitimate government representing all of China,”
He also acknowledged China’s support to Liberia during difficult periods, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Asian nation provided medical assistance and other forms of humanitarian support.
President Boakai expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations, noting that Liberia looks forward to expanding cooperation with China in trade, education, scholarships, infrastructure development, agriculture and cultural exchanges.
Congratulating the Chinese government and people on the Communist Party of China’s 105th anniversary, the President expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would continue to deepen.“
May the friendship between Liberia and China continue to grow stronger, and may our cooperation reach even greater heights for the benefit of our people ” he said.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Unity Party National Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh congratulated the Communist Party of China on its 105th anniversary, describing the Party’s history as a remarkable example of visionary leadership, discipline and long-term national planning.
Rev. Tarpeh said China’s transformation from an agrarian society into one of the world’s leading economic powers demonstrates what can be achieved through strong institutions, policy consistency and an unwavering commitment to national development.He urged Liberian political parties to draw lessons from China’s experience by prioritizing national interests above partisan politics while strengthening internal party discipline and institution-building.
“Our political parties should be built on institutions rather than individuals,” Rev. Tarpeh said, adding that sustainable development requires leaders who think beyond election cycles and work collectively despite political differences.
He further called on Liberian politicians to embrace unity and shared responsibility in addressing national challenges, particularly poverty reduction and grassroots development.
Rev. Tarpeh also commended the Government of Liberia for strengthening diplomatic relations with China, expressing optimism that the partnership would continue to create greater opportunities for economic and social development.
For his part, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu said the Communist Party of China remains committed to working with countries around the world to improve the well-being of their citizens through cooperation based on equality, mutual respect and shared development.
Ambassador Yin said China is prepared to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Liberia and other countries in areas including peacebuilding, economic development and improving the welfare of citizens.
“We are willing to strengthen cooperation with political parties in Liberia and other countries to improve the well-being of our peoples,” Ambassador Yin said.He stressed that modernization should not be the privilege of only a few nations but an aspiration that should be shared by all countries.
“Together, we will explore modernization paths suited to our respective national conditions, promote common development through mutual learning and achieve shared prosperity through cooperation,” he said.
