MOE and WFP Sign New Agreement to Strengthen National School Feeding Programme
Monrovia, August 13,2026: In a effort to to strengthen and sustain the National School Feeding Programme in Liberia, the Ministry of Education has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with the World Food Programme (WFP). The new agreement is expected to function from 2026 to 2028.
According to Ministry of Education, the Agreement supports Liberia’s transition toward greater national ownership of school feeding.
As per the MOU, the Government of Liberia will take responsibility for planning, financing, and implementation, while WFP continues to provide technical and institutional support.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah emphasized that school meals are an important part of keeping children in school. They support enrollment, attendance, retention, concentration, and learning.
The Minister also announced plans to expand the School Connect digital platform to more than 300 schools, strengthening real-time monitoring and accountability in the delivery of school meals.
Meanwhile, WFP Country Director Dr. Agbessi Komla Amewoa described the agreement as the official kickoff of the 2026/2027 school feeding programme and reaffirmed WFP’s continued support to Liberia.
The new agreement strengthens the systems needed to make school feeding more sustainable, better monitored, and increasingly owned and financed by Liberia.
