AFTER 42YEARS, BENTOL STILL LACKS ELECTRICITY AND BASIC SOCIAL SERVICES

Bentol, Montserrado: Citizens of Bentol, the capital city of Montserrado County is calling on the Government of Liberia to consider electrifying the city after being lack of basic social services for 42 years of its existence.
According to the City Mayor John Y. Minor, residents have been living in darkness for decades, something he said poses security threats to people of Bentol and called on GOL to intervene swiftly.
“We are unable to carry on our day-to-day activities here in Bentol especially during the when is evening hours, the entire city is dark which I think is very embarrassing for a place called city, We need help, we are tired living in darkness we have laid our petitions to our Leaders and stakeholders over and again but nothing has been done to address the matter” The city major noted.
He said there is no internet connection while LEC wires are passing over the city without the city being connected noting that Bentol does not represent a city. Bentol is in Montserrado district one and represented by Rep Rukie Barry alongside 18 other lawmakers from Montserrado Senators Saah Joseph and Abraham Darius Dillon,
Mayor Minor spoke at the official program making the overview of the World Health Day celebration held in Bentol City, rural Montserrado. Established Mar 17, 1847, Bentol City is the oldest capital in Liberia a small town located not far from Liberia’s capital and named after two of Liberia’s presidents.
Stephen Allen Benson one of Liberia’s presidents ran a farm Bentol and was in office in the mid-1800s century while William R Tolbert was born there and took power in 1971.
In 1974 the County capital was moved by President Willam VS Tolbert to his hometown in Bensenville ( Bentol City). Bentol is the oldest and largest city but lacks basic development and suitable livelihood.
