BOMI COUNTY SENATOR EDWIN SNOWE JOINS TWO LAWMAKERS TO SUBMIT BILL TO ESTABLISH MUSLIM HOLIDAY

Bomi County Senator Edwin Mevin Snowe has joined two other senators to establish Muslim holiday as well as reaffirm Christian holidays.
The other two senators are Gbrapolu County lawmaker Amara Konnah and Lofa County Senator Joseph Jallah.
Three Senators Proposed Bill was introduced Tuesday, May 20, 2025, titled “An Act to Establish Certain Religious Holidays in the Republic of Liberia.”
According to the three lawmakers, the legislation seeks to promote religious inclusivity by officially recognizing both Christian and Muslim holidays as national public holidays.
The bill is sponsored by Lofa County Senator Jallah with co-sponsorship from Senators Snowe and Konneh of Gbarpolu County.
“The purpose of this Act is to Promote religious inclusion, unity, and national harmony;
Affirm the religious rights of all Liberians as well as Officially declare selected Christian and Muslim holidays as national public holidays.
Christmas Day – December 25th of every year;
Easter Monday – The Monday after Easter Sunday,
Eid al-Fitr (End of Ramadan) – A movable holiday observed each year according to the Islamic lunar calendar.
The exact date of Eid al-Fitr shall be determined annually in consultation with the National Muslim Council of Liberia or announced through a proclamation issued by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of Religious Affairs (if applicable), shall officially announce the date of Eid al-Fitr at least five (5) days prior to its expected occurrence.
SECTION 5: Effect and Implementation
a. On each of the declared public religious holidays, all government institutions, schools, and private businesses shall observe a day of rest.
