EPA Conducts Three-Day Advanced QuickBooks Training for Finance Staff in Buchanan
Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, September 24, 2026— The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is conducting a three-day advanced QuickBooks training for staff of its Finance Department in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County.
The ongoing training is aimed at strengthening the capacity of finance staff in the use of QuickBooks and improving financial management, reporting, accountability and auditing processes within the Agency.
Speaking during the opening of the training, EPA Deputy Executive Director for Administration, Hon. Anthony S. Kollie, emphasized the importance of using modern financial tools alongside strong financial discipline and proper management practices.
Hon. Kollie said the training is part of the Agency’s efforts to build the capacity of its staff and strengthen its financial administration.
He explained that QuickBooks is more than an accounting software, noting that it provides a practical system for recording transactions, tracking income and expenditure, monitoring budgets and cash flow, managing receivables and payables, and preparing financial reports.
“When used properly, QuickBooks reduces manual errors, saves time, and improves the quality of financial records,” Hon. Kollie said.
He added that accurate and timely financial information is important for management to make informed decisions and ensure that the Agency’s resources are properly managed.
Financial Discipline Remains Key
The EPA Deputy Executive Director stressed that having financial software alone cannot guarantee proper financial management.
“Technology alone cannot replace competence, responsibility, and sound judgment,” he said.
Hon. Kollie urged finance staff to combine their technical knowledge of QuickBooks with proper financial procedures, accountability and discipline.
He said financial discipline requires staff to follow approved procedures, spend within established budgets, maintain proper documentation and ensure that every transaction is properly justified and traceable.
According to him, strong financial discipline helps prevent waste and misuse of funds, strengthens internal controls, improves compliance and prepares the Agency for effective audits.
Hon. Kollie also highlighted the connection between proper bookkeeping and auditing.
He said a properly maintained QuickBooks system can provide a clear audit trail, making it easier for auditors to trace transactions, verify balances and review financial records.
He encouraged staff to see auditing not as a threat, but as a process that can help the EPA identify weaknesses, improve its systems and strengthen institutional governance.
“Good bookkeeping is not only about keeping records; it is about preparing the institution for scrutiny, learning, and improvement,” he said.
The three-day training provides participants with an opportunity to improve their practical skills and deepen their understanding of QuickBooks and financial management.
Hon. Kollie encouraged the participants to take the training seriously and apply the knowledge gained to their daily work.
He said the ultimate goal is to strengthen transparency, efficiency and accountability in the EPA’s financial administration.
