FOR FAILING TO DECLARE ASSETS, PRES. BOAKAI DIRECT SUSPENDED GOL OFFICIALS’ SALARIES TO “ONE CHILD, ONE CHAIR” PRESIDENTIAL INITIATIVE

March 17, 2025

Monrovia: President Joseph Boakai has directed all defiant Government officials who failed to declare their assets salaries to “One child, one chair,” a presidential initiative after several deadlines.

In February 2025, the president suspended all Government officials who failed to declare their assets within the required timeframe in with Article 2, Section 10.2(h) of the Act to Amend Section 5.2 and Section 10.2 of the 2014 Code of Conduct following the President’s directive issued on November 27, 2024, granting a ten-day grace period for compliance.

In a statement issued by the Executive Mansion, Pres. Boakai praised the Civil Service Agency for its decisive action in ensuring compliance with the national asset declaration mandate.

In line with the Administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, the CSA effectively blocked the salaries of Government officials who failed to adhere to the directive as issued by the President.

To maximize the impact of these funds, the Liberian Leader has directed the CSA to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance & Development Planning (MFDP) to establish an escrow account for the cumulative blocked salaries, amounting to approximately $90,808.56. These funds will be allocated toward the “One Child, One Chair” Presidential Initiative to enhance learning conditions in primary and secondary schools across the country.

Additionally, the President has mandated the CSA to work alongside the Ministry of Education (MOE) to ensure the timely procurement and distribution of chairs to schools in need.

Furthermore, the Bureau of State Enterprises (BSE) has been instructed to implement similar measures for officials of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) who remain suspended due to non-compliance with the asset declaration mandate. The funds derived from these actions will also be redirected to the “One Child, One Chair” initiative.

The President believes that this move reinforces the steadfastness in the mission to uphold integrity in public service while prioritizing policies that directly benefit the people of Liberia, particularly school-going children.

The Liberian Leader calls on all public officials to comply with asset declaration regulations to foster greater accountability and has reiterated that failure to comply with asset declaration requirements undermines national efforts to combat corruption and ensure accountability.

“Public officials are reminded that assets declaration is not only a legal obligation but also a fundamental measure to promote transparency and restore public trust in government institutions, moving forward, strict enforcement of legal and ethical standards will continue to be a priority of this Administration” Pres. Boakai cautioned.
