Monrovia: The Government of Liberia has requested a clarification on reports that Liberia may be under visa restriction until concern of deficiency and other issues are addressed.
During an appearance of Foreign Minister Sara Brysolow Nyanti before the Liberian Senate committee on Foreign Affairs, indicated that she was surprised about reports circulating social media and other platforms over visa restrictions.
Further addressing the visa restrictions at the senate Madam Nyanti noted that the Government has not received official communication from the U.S. Government about any visa restrictions. She further noted that the U.S. Embassy near Monrovia has also confirmed it has no formal information on the matter.
The démarche outlines Liberia’s position and presents reasons why the country should not be placed on the so-called “yellow list,” should the reports prove to be accurate.
Recently, The New York Times reported that Trump’s administration is considering drastic immigration measures on several countries listing Liberia and other countries that may be given sixty days to address certain concerns that include deficiencies or may face visa restrictions.
U.S. State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce has since clarified saying “First of all, there is no list. What people have been looking at these past several days it’s not a list that exists here,” “There is a review through the President’s executive order for us to look at the nature of what is going to help make America safer,”
