Monrovia: In the quest to end violence against women and girls, Helping Our People Excel (HOPE) Inc. has officially launched a new initiative titled “Alliance to End Violence Against Women and Girls in Liberia.”
The 18 months (January 2026- June 2026) project aims to strengthen advocacy, campaigning, and policymaking through coalitions and transformative feminist action. It seeks to promote stronger national and regional frameworks that address gender-based violence in Liberia and across the sub-region.
The launch brought together key stakeholders from diverse sectors who reaffirmed their commitment to the fight against violence.
Speaking at the event, Madam Alfreda Foboi Nmah, Executive Director of HOPE Inc., highlighted the significance of the ACT Campaign, which focuses on increasing and enhancing regional and sub-regional policymaking with direct impact on national laws.
“The aim of this ACT campaign is to advocate for the domestication of key regional frameworks and the enactment of strong national laws and policies to end violence in Liberia and Ghana through strategic engagements at international and regional forums,” she said.
Madam Nmah also underscored the challenges that survivors face in accessing justice and support services. “The stigmatization of survivors, lack of resources, limited access to information, and inadequate support services remain significant barriers. When survivors cannot access justice or resources, they often face isolation, shame, and blame from their communities even their own families,” she added.
Also, Mr Eric Nagbe, National Coordinator of SOAPr, pledged his organization’s full commitment to the fight. He also called on men to take an active role in ending violence.
“We are open to conversations, but men must take this fight seriously. Too often, men are the perpetrators of violence. It’s time for us to raise awareness and ensure a safer Liberia for our sisters, mothers, and daughters,” he emphasized.
The Alliance to End Violence Against Women and Girls represents a united front in the struggle for justice, dignity, and equality for women and girls across Liberia. The project was officially launch by the Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Gender children and social protection Ophelia J. Kennedy.
Minister Kennedy urged CSO’s and stakeholders to join the Alliance with a focus and ready minds to end Violence Against Women and girl in Liberia Pledging the ministry’s full commitment in tackling GBV issues.
