Monrovia, Liberia the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has officially launched activities marking World Children’s Day 2025, reaffirming Liberia’s commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of every child.

Tokpah stated. “It reminds us that the rights of every child must be protected, respected, and fulfilled at all times.”

Each year, on November 20, the world celebrates World Children’s Day in commemoration of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), adopted in 1989, the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history.

Liberia joins this global movement by hosting week-long events focused on accountability and child-led advocacy. This year’s celebration is led by the Liberia National Children’s Forum, in partnership with UNICEF, the Child Protection Network, and other key partners.

According to Hon. Tokpah, the 2025 edition builds on progress made during the 2024 observance and seeks to hold policymakers accountable for commitments made to improve children’s welfare.

This year celebration aims to hold duty bearers accountable for promises made to protect children, empower children to engage with decision makers and Strengthen enforcement of the Children’s Law of 2011 and other national protection frameworks.

She added that the Ministry, working with the Ministries of Justice and Labor, along with the Monrovia and Paynesville City Corporations, is finalizing a joint communiqué to end child street peddling and hazardous labor as part of the government’s enforcement of the Children’s Law of 2011.

Despite the progress, Hon. Tokpah emphasized that many children across Liberia continue to face serious challenges. Calling on all stakeholder’s government, development partners, and communities—to step up collective efforts to ensure that every child grows up in safety and dignity. “World Children’s Day 2025 is a reminder that children are not just our future they are our present,” she said.
