Hundreds of Liberians Gather at ELWA Junction To Prayer for Liberia

Monrovia: Despite the heavy down pour of rain hundreds of Liberians from various churches across Monrovia on Wednesday morning, gathered at the ELWA Junction to fast and pray for Liberia after Pers. Joseph Boakai declares the day as National Prayer Day.
The prayer gathering, largely attended by young people, was held to seek divine intervention and blessings for the nation.
Participants had a powerful prayer session praying for prosperity and an end to corruption, drug abuse and transformation of Liberia’s struggling education sector.
In a surprise appearance, President Joseph Boakai’s made an unplanned stop at the event.
commending the young people for their spiritual initiative and called on them to continue interceding for Liberia and its leaders.
“The Government of Liberia is grateful to you all for your level of commitment,” President Boakai said. “We believe God is already smiling on Liberia. Let’s continue praying Liberia will be great again.”
Some Liberians have since expressed mixed feelings after Pres. Boakai’s declaration saying the president should rather prioritize national reconciliation and unity. According to critics’ meaningful change is not possible amid deep divisions among citizens which still unresolved
They described the holiday as politically motivated.
The gathering ended with songs of praise and renewed hope for a better Liberia.
Pres. Joseph Boakai On July 26, declared Wednesday July 30, 2025 through a Proclamation National Day of Prayer to be observed throughout the Republic as a Public Holiday.
