Internal Affairs Minister Initiates Dialogue to Resolve Long-Standing Land Dispute in Lofa County

Lofa county: Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin has launched government efforts aimed at fostering peace and harmony in the region.

The will will address long-standing land dispute affecting residents along the border towns of Foya and Kaluhun in Lofa County.

The dialogue commenced on Tuesday in Kaluhun, bringing together community leaders and residents from both districts.

Minister Nyumalin emphasized the importance of reaching an amicable resolution to the land dispute, noting that future generations must coexist peacefully. “It is our responsibility to ensure that our unborn children inherit a land free from conflict,” he stated during the opening remarks of the dialogue.

The Minister assured residents that the government is committed to supporting the establishment of a permanent boundary, which will include the construction of significant cornerstones once an agreement is reached.

The initiative aims to provide clarity and security regarding land ownership and usage in the area.

Paramount Chief Jallah Menjoe of Kaluhun District expressed optimism about the dialogue, assuring Minister Nyumalin that they are dedicated to finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing land issue, which has persisted for many years. “We understand the importance of this matter and are committed to restoring peace in Lofa,” Chief Menjoe affirmed.

Foya District’s Paramount Chief, Saysay Nyuma, also expressed gratitude for the government’s involvement in resolving the dispute. “We appreciate the steps taken by the government to ensure that our people can live in peace,” Chief Nyuma remarked.

The land dispute primarily involves the Gbandi and Kissi people of Lofa County, and the ongoing dialogue represents a critical step towards reconciliation and unity among the affected communities.

As efforts continue to resolve this long-standing issue, the Ministry of Internal Affairs remains dedicated to fostering peace and collaboration among the people of Lofa County.
