Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County: Major Opposition Political Parties are expected to grace the Congress for Democratic Change 22nd Anniversary and Militant Month activities in Grand Gedeh County.The week-long celebration held under the theme, “Zwedru Rises; 2029 Victory is the final Destination,” has draw prominent opposition leaders and supporters from across the country, making it one of the largest opposition gatherings since the 2023 general elections.The CDC’s anniversary program will feature political discussions, party activities and national dialogue aimed at assessing Liberia’s political landscape and charting a path toward the 2029 elections beginningJune 23 to June 27, 2026.According to an official invitation issued by CDC National Chairman, Janga Kowo, the party has invited opposition leaders to participate in what it describes as a National Political Renewal and Policy Dialogue focused on democratic governance, accountability, and national development.The Political Leader of the Alternative National Congress, Alexander B. Cummings is expected to serve as keynote speaker for the program.The high-profile opposition figures expected in Zwedru according to CDC include All Liberian Party Political leader Benoni Urey, Citizens Movement for Change Musa Bility, Political Leader of the National Patriotic Party and former Vice President Party Jewel Howard Taylor, Political Leader of the Movement for Progressive Change Simeon Freeman, Cllr Kabineh Mohammed Ja’neh, legislators, former government officials, youth, women leaders, civil society representatives, and traditional leaders.According to the CDC’s chairman, the dialogue will provide an opportunity for opposition stakeholders to discuss key national concerns, including governance, economic challenges, and public confidence in state institutions.Hw noted that Liberia is facing significant social and economic pressures and stressed the need for opposition leaders to engage constructively on issues affecting ordinary Liberians while preparing for future electoral contests.The Zwedru gathering is widely viewed as the most significant public display of opposition collaboration since the 2023 elections, bringing together several political actors who were previously rivals but now share concerns about the country’s direction.Meanwhile, the CDC has announced that thousands of its members, officials, and supporters are expected to participate in the anniversary celebrations, reaffirming the party’s determination to reposition itself ahead of the 2029 presidential and legislative elections
