Ministry of Health Launches Anti-Corruption Policy to Strengthen Accountability in Health Sector

Monrovia: The Ministry of Health has officially launched its Anti-Corruption and Protection Policy, a robust initiative aimed at reinforcing accountability and ethical conduct across all health sectors in Liberia.

The newly introduced policy provides clear procedures for reporting fraud, protecting whistleblowers, and upholding a culture of integrity within the Ministry and its partners. It reaffirms the Ministry’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, aligning with both national and international anti-corruption frameworks.

 Safeguarding Resources and Public Trust Fraud poses a serious threat to the integrity, efficiency, and credibility of public institutions. Recognizing this, the Ministry has designed the Anti-Fraud Policy to: Safeguard public health resources Ensure efficient delivery of healthcare services Promote transparency and ethical behavior Protect the trust of citizens and stakeholders The policy emphasizes prevention, early detection, and a systematic response to fraudulent activity within the healthcare system.

Minister of Health Call for Integrity According to Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Koto, global audits and reports have exposed various instances of fraud in public health systems, underscoring the urgent need for strong anti-fraud measures.

 “These incidents not only lead to financial losses,” she noted, “but also disrupt essential healthcare services, ultimately affecting the well-being of communities.” Dr. Koto made these remarks through a policy framework document published on the Ministry of Health’s official Facebook page. She highlighted that the policy:

Draws from international best practices Aligns with Liberia’s legal and regulatory systems Promotes a workplace culture of honesty, compliance, and accountability Promoting Integrity Across All Counties “The health and trust of the Liberian people depend on the integrity of our healthcare system,” Dr. Koto emphasized.

“This policy is a bold step towards building a more transparent and accountable health sector.” She reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to promoting integrity among all employees and stakeholders throughout the country’s 15 counties.

The Ministry of Health plays a central role in managing and delivering healthcare services in Liberia. By introducing this Anti-Corruption and Protection Policy, the Ministry aims to lead by example in public sector governance and to restore confidence in the country’s healthcare system.

The policy will be regularly reviewed and updated to ensure its effectiveness in combating corruption and maintaining public trust.
