Ministry of Information Denies Tax Claims on Religious Institutions

Monrovia: The Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism has issued a statement refuting recent reports alleging that the Government of Liberia plans to impose taxes on churches and mosques operating within the country.
In his statement, Daniel O. Sando, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs, labeled these reports as “entirely false and without merit.” He described them as “FAKE news and malicious fabrications” aimed at creating confusion among the public and misleading citizens.
Sando urged individuals to disregard these unfounded claims and encouraged them to stay focused on the government’s ongoing developmental initiatives. The statement, released on August 6, 2025, seeks to assure citizens that no such taxation plans are in place.
Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs Daniel O. Sando said “We are compelled to clarify that the reports about plans by the Government of Liberia to impose taxes on churches and mosques operating within the country are entirely false and without merit. These reports are FAKE news and malicious fabrications intended to create unnecessary confusion and mislead the public. We urge the citizens to disregard such unfounded claims and remain focused on the government’s ongoing developmental initiatives”.
