President Boakai Dismisses Top NPHIL Officials Based On Board’s Recommendation

Monrovia: President Joseph Boakai has with immediate effect dismissed two top official of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) based on recommendation from the Board of Directors.
The top officials are Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, Director General and Dr. Adams K. Lincoln, Deputy Director.
According to the Board, since Dr. Nyan took office in August 2024, Dr. Nyan failed to collaborate and coordinate with the Ministry of Health, partners and Government institutions in key decisions disregarding the statutory authority of the Board.
The board further narrated in a resolution dated September 12, 2025 that Dr. Nyan persistently engaged into foreign travels as well as sending communications to the President and Legislature including conducting NPHIL’s affairs with the media without the Board approval and proper authorization.
The Board further noted that Dr. Nyan failed to properly consult the Board on the submission of NPHIL’s budget and ignored previous warnings after his suspension on February 2025 for similar administrative concerns.
Based on the above-mentioned, the Board, unanimously voted based on NPHIL’s 2016 Act to recommend Dr. Nyan’s removal to the Preasident Boakai. Seven of the ten board members voted in favor of his dismissal, while two abstained one against.
The Board in its resolution recommended Dr. Sia Wata Camanor as Interim Director General of NPHIL, collaborating and coordinating NPHIL ‘s operations in consultation with the Board, Ministry of Health, and Development partners until a new Director General can be appointed.
