Rep Musa Bility Challenges House to Commence Audit from 2018 to 2025

October 28, 2025

Monrovia: Nimba County District seventh district Representative Musa Hassan Bility, has called on the House of Representatives to commence the ongoing audit of the Legislature from 2018 to 2025, instead of limiting it to 2022 to 2024.

In a communication addressed to the Speaker and Members of the House, Rep. Bility commended the leadership for initiating the audit process but expressed concern that the restricted timeframe would not reflect a true picture of accountability and transparency within the institution.

“The House of Representatives has not undergone any formal audit for several decades,” the years 2018 to 2021 are particularly important for any meaningful assessment of the House’s financial operations, Rep Bility stated.

To omit those years from the audit would significantly undermine the credibility and completeness of the process.” The Nimba County lawmaker emphasized that expanding the audit period would help restore public trust, enhance institutional integrity, and reaffirm the Legislature’s commitment to transparency and good governance.

Rep. Bility reminded his colleagues that the Legislature serves as the custodian of accountability and oversight, and therefore must lead by example through a comprehensive audit process that leaves no room for public doubt. “If we must lead the fight for good governance, we must lead by example,” he asserted.

The House of Representatives recently voted to audit its financial records for fiscal years 2022 to 2024. However, Bility’s communication has reignited public discourse around the need for a deeper and more transparent review that includes prior years marked by alleged administrative and financial irregularities.

If approved, the proposed expansion would see the audit cover seven years (2018–2025)  a move that many observers believe could set a new standard for institutional accountability within the Liberian Legislature.
