BONG: As a means of practicalizing the agriculture component of President Joseph Boakai’s ARREST agenda, Bong County Senator Prince Moye has officially opened 75 acres of Rice Farm for harvest in KOLKATA-WOLAH Town, Bong County.

Remarking at the opening ceremony of the farm on Saturday, October 26, 2024, Senator Moye said as a key member of the Unity Party government, he intends to have one of the biggest plantains and rice farms in the republic.

He added that the 75 acres of Rice farm is not only occupied with rice but also has plantains and other local crops. Moreover, Senator Moye emphasized that after the cultivation of the rice component on the farm, the plantains will be well taken care of for local production of plantain chips and plantains-fufu, amongst others.

Additionally, Senator Moye furthered that if Liberia is to be a food-secure nation, every citizen must get involved in farming activities, something he believes will also lead to reducing Liberia’s dependency on the importation of the nation’s staple, rice. Performing the official harvest-opening of the farm on behalf of Agriculture Minister Alexander Neutah, the Executive Director of the Liberia Aquaculture Regulatory Commodity (LACRA), Christopher Sankolo lauded Senator Moye for undertaking such an Initiative. Director Sankolo described the gesture as a nation-feed-yourself initiative, thus calling on all government officials to emulate the senator’s project.

He believes that if every citizen and government officials get involved in farming activities, the ARREST Agenda of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai would be a living reality. Meanwhile, the LACRA Executive Director used the medium to encourage Senator Moye to get involved in intercropping or mix-planting, especially planting Cocoa on the plantains’ farm.

Director Sankolo added that Cocoa is one of the most expensive crops on the world market; as such, getting involved in the production of Cocoa would lead to a quick income generation. He then pledged his institution’s commitment to supporting Senator Moye with technical services if the need arises. The ceremony was graced by local and national government officials, partisans, and community members amongst others.
