Monrovia, 9 July 2026 – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is expected to commemorate โ€˜Wold Population Dayโ€™ on tomorrow July 10,2026 in Liberia. The ceremony is in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services.

Word Population is celebrated on July 11 of each year to raise awareness around issues of population and development. This year’s theme is: “Realizing the hopes and aspirations of young people – today and for the future.”

Senate Protempore of the 55th National Legislature Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence has been named as the keynote speaker of the occasion. The event will bring together stakeholders from government ministries, the diplomatic community, development partners, civil society, media and youth groups to foster dialogue on demographic change and sustainable development.

Ahead of the World Population Day 2026, UNFPA released its Demographic Futures Survey Report on July 7, 2026 under the title Lives, Choices and Futures: What Young People Want and What Shapes Their Decisions About Relationship and Parenthood”.

UNFPA in a statement said, the Demographic Futures Survey collected data from over 100,000 Internet-connected people aged 18 to 39 in 73 countries. The report gathered that young people are not rejecting family life, but reacting to the constraint associated with establishing a family, reinforcing the findings of last year’s State of the World Population Report.

Findings in this report present a compelling call on governments to promote right choices, and smart long-term investments in young people as a way of making demographic change contributes to growth that is inclusive.

At this yearโ€™s program, UNFPA in Liberia will present the findings of the report to generate discussion about its implications for Liberia. The event is scheduled to take place at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, Monrovia.
