Monrovia: Former religious advisor to ex-President George Weah Rev. Emmanuel Nimely, was released on bail this week by Criminal Court ‘C’ after spending over a year in jail on charges of fraud.
Nimely was arrested in 2024 for allegedly defrauding more than 90 individuals in a visa scam involving a fake religious conference in Australia. Investigators say he collected over US$87,000 from victims under false pretenses, promising travel arrangements and visas that were never delivered.
The court revealed that Nimely confessed to receiving the funds but failed to either secure the promised visas or refund the money. Authorities further disclosed that his religious organization operated as a front for the fraudulent scheme.
Pres Weah Religious Advisor was arrested on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, by the Liberia National Police and placed behind bars for allegedly extorting money from citizens. Rev. Emmanuel Nimely before arrested serves as the senior Pastor of Forklaykon Jlateh Church.
Rev. Emmanuel Nimely is alleged to have solicited money from thousands of Liberians under the pretense of taking them to Australia on a church program which he failed to do.
