AWLN Liberia and Partners to Convene National Conference on Women’s Financial Inclusion
Monrovia, Liberia – July 28, 2026 – The Africa Women Leaders Network (AWLN) Liberia Chapter, in partnership with the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), will host a landmark National Conference on Women’s Financial Inclusion from July 29–30, 2026, at the Ministerial Complex in Monrovia.
Held under the theme “Catalyzing Access. Unlocking Enterprise. Advancing Liberia,” the two-day conference will bring together more than 200 participants, including women entrepreneurs, policymakers, financial institutions, regulators, development partners, private sector leaders, and business associations to advance practical solutions that expand women’s access to finance and strengthen their contribution to Liberia’s economic growth.
The conference is supported through a catalytic grant from the Federal Republic of Germany and forms part of AWLN Liberia’s broader commitment to advancing women’s socioeconomic empowerment through its Financial Inclusion pillar.
Women remain the backbone of Liberia’s economy, driving businesses in agriculture, trade, manufacturing, services, and the creative sector. Despite their significant contributions, many continue to face barriers in accessing formal financial services. While the Central Bank of Liberia’s 2025 report indicates encouraging progress, with women’s access to credit increasing to 25 percent from no recorded female participation in credit transactions in 2024, access remains largely concentrated in Monrovia, leaving many women across the country underserved.
The conference seeks to bridge this gap by creating a national platform where women can directly engage financial institutions and regulators while exploring practical pathways to financial inclusion and enterprise growth.
Throughout the conference, participants will have the opportunity to interact with banks, microfinance institutions, insurers, pension providers, and regulatory agencies through practical sessions on opening bank accounts, initiating loan applications, formalizing businesses, accessing insurance and pension services, and becoming investment-ready.
High-level panel discussions will address key issues affecting women’s economic participation, including increasing women’s access to credit, overcoming land and collateral challenges, expanding insurance and pension coverage, leveraging mobile money for business growth, and supporting women-led enterprises to transition from the informal economy into investable businesses.
Speaking ahead of the conference, the Chairperson of the Africa Women Leaders Network (AWLN) Liberia Chapter said the initiative represents a defining moment in Liberia’s efforts to empower women economically.
“This conference is about transforming access into opportunity. Liberian women have long demonstrated resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit, yet many continue to face barriers in accessing finance and growing their businesses. Through this national conference, AWLN is bringing together the institutions, policymakers, and development partners that can help remove those barriers and build a more inclusive financial ecosystem. We envision a Liberia where every woman, regardless of where she lives, has the opportunity to access credit, insurance, investment, and the financial tools needed to build sustainable enterprises and contribute meaningfully to national development,” Amb. The conference will also serve as a national networking platform, bringing together approximately 120 women entrepreneurs from across Liberia alongside more than 80 financial sector leaders, policymakers, development partners, investors, and representatives of chambers of commerce and business associations.
AWLN Liberia believes the conference represents more than a national dialogue. It is a strategic step toward building an inclusive financial ecosystem where Liberian women can fully participate in economic development through improved access to credit, investment, insurance, pensions, and business opportunities.
