BAO CHICO MINING COMPANY UNDER CONTEMPT FOR IMPEDING LEGISTIVE FUNCTION

March 28, 2025

Monrovia: The Management of Bao Chico Mining Company has been under contempt for what the committee described as impeding legislative functions. The House of Representatives Joint Committee on Concessions & Investment.

The joint committee was set up to conduct a comprehensive review of all concession agreements across the country and report to the body for further action.

The company was scheduled to appear before the committee for a public hearing last Friday, March 22, 2025. However, the committee was met with an excuse letter from Bao Chico, which the committee has described as a “flimsy excuse.” The letter failed to provide a valid reason for the company’s absence and instead requested a postponement of the hearing by one month.

The committee noted that the letter lacked the clear name of the signatory, and only the position of “General Manager” was mentioned, further raising concerns regarding the company’s lack of transparency.

In response, the Joint Committee on Investment has expressed its disappointment, stating that Bao Chico Mining Company’s failure to appear before the committee was an act of disrespect and a deliberate attempt to undermine the legislative process.

The committee has demanded that the company appear with its legal counsel on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, to show cause why they should not be held in contempt for impeding the legislative function.

The House of Representatives Joint Committee remains committed to its mission of ensuring transparency and accountability in all concession agreements and will take necessary actions to ensure all entities, including Bao Chico, comply with their obligations.
