Bensenville, Montserrado – Champions for Nature Conservation (CNC) – Liberia has concluded a one-day forest conservation training aimed at building the capacity of junior and senior high school students in Montserrado County.

The training was held at the conservation education center and research forest in Gormosue, Bensonville, Montserrado County. The initiative brought together students from four schools, namely: Alexander Sesay Academy, World of Life International, Julie Taitt Evangelical Lutheran School, and the Kingsley Memorial School.

According to CNC – Liberia Chief Executive Officer, Moses Massah, the capacity building training underscored the importance of environmental education among young people. He stated that the training is part of an ongoing initiative designed to give students a clearer understanding of how forests contribute to the health of the planet.

He noted that it intends to educate Liberian students on the vital role forests play in sustaining life and mitigating climate change. Several students participated in the training, which emphasized the protection of Liberia’s forests and the species that inhabit them. “This knowledge will empower students to advocate for forest protection and play a role in addressing the global climate crisis,” Massah said.

“With the increasing threats posed by global warming and climate change, it is critical that the youth of Liberia take the lead in safeguarding their environment.” During the training, participants were taught practical ways to conserve natural resources and protect biodiversity. They also learned how forests serve as carbon sinks, provide habitats for wildlife, and support human livelihoods.

At the close of the session, students expressed their gratitude to Champions for Nature Conservation – Liberia for organizing the event.

They pledged to apply the lessons learned in their communities and help raise awareness about forest conservation. ‘’On behalf of the students here, we extend appreciation to the Champions for Nature Conservation- Liberia for the training.

Because of this training, we know the important role the forest and nature in general play in our existence. ’’Orena Howard of Word of Life School noted.

The knowledge acquired will go a long way. We promised to engage in meaningful conversations in our respective communities and raise awareness of the vital roles the forest plays’ Rose, a Student from the Alexander Sesay Academy, added. The training forms part of CNC Liberia’s ongoing efforts to engage youth in environmental advocacy and climate action across the country.
