EPS THREATENS ACTION AGAINST AMBULANCE, FIRE SERVICE TRUCKS AND OTHERS INTRUDING PRESIDENTIAL AND VICE-PRESIDENTIAL MOTORCADES

Monrovia: The Executive Protection Service (EPS) has warned drivers and the public in general of violating safety rules for Presidential and Vice-Presidential convoys.

EPS in a statement issued on Wednesday January 22,2025 alerted the public to heightened safety measures surrounding the Presidential and Vice-Presidential convoys in light of increasing intrusions and unsafe behaviors by unauthorized motorists, emergency vehicles, and pedestrians.

According to the EPS, there has been observation in repeated incidents of motorists, including drivers of emergency medical vehicles and fire trucks, as well as pedestrians, failing to yield the right-of-way to the Presidential motorcade. Highlighting that these actions are in direct violation of Section 10.45 of the Vehicle and Traffic Laws of the Republic of Liberia, which mandates yielding to emergency and official vehicles.

The EPS stressed that such behaviors do not only endanger the lives of the President and Vice President but also compromise public safety. “The EPS has observed repeated incidents of motorists, including drivers of emergency medical vehicles and fire trucks, as well as pedestrians, failing to yield the right-of-way to the Presidential motorcade.

These actions are in direct violation of Section 10.45 of the Vehicle and Traffic Laws of the Republic of Liberia, which mandates yielding to emergency and official vehicles” The EPS has urged the drivers, motorists, emergency vehicles and pedestrians to yield to vehicles, cautioning that action will be taken against violators.

“All motorists, emergency vehicles, and pedestrians are required to promptly yield to the sound of sirens from the Presidential Escort vehicles. Failure to comply may lead to a response from the EPS to neutralize potential threats”. EPS has promised to immediately implement adequate measures. “The EPS will use all necessary legal means to address any potential threats to the Presidential motorcade. Violators will be detained and handed over to the Liberia National Police for prosecution in accordance with Liberian law”.
