FeJAL Opens Door to Indian Training, Scholarships for Liberian Women Journalists

MONROVIA, Oct 21, 2026 — The Female Journalists Association of Liberia has secured a place for its members in India’s training and media exchange programs. India’s ambassador has invited women journalists to compete for 140 training places allocated to Liberia for 2026-27 and has pledged to consider FeJAL for future exchanges with Indian media institutions.

The invitation arrived Wednesday, October 21, 2026 when a delegation headed by FeJAL President Lisa T. Diasay met with Ambassador Manoj Bihari Verma at the Indian Embassy in Mamba Point during a courtesy meeting, the association said.

Diasay urged capacity development to make women journalists more skilled and competitive. She named digital journalism, artificial intelligence, technology, newsroom leadership, and professional exchanges as FeJAL’s priorities.

Amb. Verma said the 140 places under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program are open to qualified Liberians, including eligible women journalists. He encouraged FeJAL members to apply for scholarships offered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, describing both programs as part of India’s commitment to building skills in Liberia.

Ms. Diasay also pushed for the partnership to extend beyond the capital. She proposed that the embassy work directly with FeJAL’s network of county-based journalists, giving reporters outside Monrovia better access to information about India-supported projects in agriculture, health and education. That would strengthen independent development reporting, deepen public understanding of India-Liberia relations and create new opportunities for women journalists across the country, she said.

Amb. Verma welcomed FeJAL’s interest and said the embassy would share news of its programs and development work through the association’s media network. He said the embassy would keep FeJAL informed of new opportunities.

Diasay welcomed India’s continued investment in Liberia’s people. She said FeJAL is committed to building partnerships to strengthen women’s participation and leadership in the media.
