Former Deputy Foreign Minister Sent to Prison Over Corruption allegation

Monrovia: The former deputy minister of Foreign Affairs has been arrested and sent to the Monrovia Central Prison over corruption allegation following an Indictment order from the court.

Madam Thelma Duncan-Sawyer and four other indicted individuals are facing prosecution on allegations of Money Laundering, Theft of Property, Misuse of Public Money, Criminal Conspiracy, Forgery and Criminal Facilitation

The investigation established that former Minister Duncan Sawyer and John Bouboty could not account for the earmarked US$800,000 intended for the renovation purposes at Foreign Affairs involving MDMC for which they are being held

Cllr. Martin also said during the press briefing that the alleged amount was misappropriation investigation has shown.

According to the Taskforce, investigators have been unable to account for the totality of the renovation funds, prompting intense scrutiny of both officials.

As a result of these findings and the Taskforce’s wider commitment to recovering misused assets, Cllr. Martin is requesting the immediate cancellation of all existing government contracts signed with Mr. Bouboty’s entity.

“The ARPRT continues to work closely with law enforcement agencies to pursue all individuals connected to the alleged theft and money laundering operations, underscoring the government’s renewed commitment to fiscal transparency and the rule of law”.
