KTK and partners sign Agreement to Enhance Sustainable Peacebuilding in Liberia

Four implementing partners on Monday, May 25, 2026, signed partnership agreements with Kvinna till Kvinna (KTK) to strengthen sustainable peacebuilding efforts in Liberia under the PeaceGen Project.
The partners include:National Young Women Political Council of Liberia (NYWPCL)Alliance for Peace, Justice and Human Rights (APJHR)Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL) and Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL)
The project will be implemented in five counties including Bomi, Bong, Montserrado, Nimba and Sinoe.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing women’s leadership, youth participation and inclusive peace processes.
Each partner within the collaboration has specific roles and responsibilities aimed at achieving the overall goals of the project over the next three years.Kvinna till Kvinna will serve as the lead implementer responsible for the overall coordination of the actions, including reporting and other contractual obligations to the donor.
WONGOSOL, serving as co-lead, will lead on the advocacy component of the action. While the National Young Women Political Council of Liberia will lead activities such as hosting annual conferences, and the Alliance for Peace, Justice and Human Rights will be involved in identifying, selecting and training youths.
The Female Journalist Association of Liberia will facilitate creative workshops and document intergenerational peace initiatives through media outlets, while the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia will provide technical expertise on legal frameworks.
The pre-launch and signing ceremony brought together representatives of civil society organizations, development partners and community stakeholders at the Women in Peacebuilding Network (WIPNET) Peace Hut at the Invincible Sports Park Fish Market in Monrovia.
The PeaceGen Project is a multi-year initiative aimed at strengthening inclusive and sustainable peacebuilding in Liberia, with particular focus on empowering women and youths as central actors in peace and reconciliation processes.
Providing an overview at the pre- launch and signing ceremony, Programe Manager of Kvinna till Kvinna, Comfort Baysah ,stressed that the Peace Gen-Generation for Peace Project is a 36-month program designed to strengthen inclusive and sustainable peacebuilding in Liberia.She explained that the project recognizes and addresses the problems of underrepresentation of youth in peace and security processes, limited access to resources and the digital gap between generations.
She noted that the Peace Gen Project also places strong emphasis on empowering women and young people as central actors in peace processes.According to her, the project focuses on four important pillars including Capacity Building, Transitional Justice, Memorialization and Community-Based Peacebuilding.In remarks, Madam Korto Williams, Country Director of Kvinna till Kvinna, said the signing of the partnership agreement carries both symbolic and practical significance.
According to her, the initiative reaffirms the central role women and young people continue to play in Liberia’s pursuit of peace, justice and inclusive governance.“Today we gather again to support the signing agreement.
This moment connects the legacy of Liberian women to the future of peacebuilding in our country,” she said.Madam Esther Davis Yango, Executive Director of Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL), extended appreciation to European Union and Kvinna till Kvinna for their trust, stating that the PeaceGen Project represents not only hope but a renewed commitment to building a more peaceful, inclusive and just Liberia.
“This project comes at a critical moment in Liberia’s peace and democracy journey. While our country continues to enjoy peace, we must know that sustainable peace cannot be taken for granted. At WONGOSOL, we strongly believe that peacebuilding cannot happen in boardrooms alone; it must happen in schools, through women’s networks, among youth groups and through inclusive dialogue,” she added.
She reaffirmed WONGOSOL’s commitment and support to the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia under the leadership of Dr. Jallah A. Barbu to gain justice, noting that sustainable peace cannot be separated from justice, accountability and truth-telling.Dr. Jallah A. Barbu, Executive Director of the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court, lauded Kvinna till Kvinna and partners for the initiative and collaboration, calling on everyone to feel a part of the War and Economic Crimes Court process.
