Monrovia: Lack of drugs and medical supplies are leading to the increase of maternal deaths and other preventable health complications at tienii clinic in Grand Cape Mount County

Grand Cape Mount County third District Representative Gbessie Sonii Feika in a communication to the House called on plenary to quickly intervene in the alarming situation citizens are currently going through in the county by allocating a budget line that will support the tienii clinic immediately.

She noted that tienii district is one of the largest districts in Grand Cape Mount County that solely depends on the Tienii Clinic, which serves as the primary healthcare center for an estimated 15,000 inhabitants from Tienii and surrounding towns and villages.

“The clinic often suffers from shortages of essential drugs and medical supplies, leading to increased maternal deaths and other preventable health complications” she said,

Rep Sonii Feika described the situation as “deeply troubling” and appealed for swift legislative action to address the crisis. “It is heartbreaking to see the people of my district facing such serious health challenges,” Hon. Feika said.

“Mr. Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and honorable colleagues, I plead with you all to treat this matter as a threat to the lives of our citizens not just those in Tienii, but the entire district.”  She added.

Following her appeal, the House Plenary referred Rep Feika’s communication to the Committee on Ways, Means, and Finance for review and appropriate recommendations to plenary for action.

If approved, the proposed budget allocation is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery across Tewor District and reduce the health risks currently confronting thousands of residents.
