Liberia Set to Host Fourth Assembly of African Legislative Speakers

Monrovia, Liberia The Republic of Liberia is set to host the Fourth Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (COSPAL) later this year, marking a significant milestone in the country’s legislative and diplomatic engagement on the African continent.

The Announcement was made on Monday, January 12, 2026, by Honorable Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon during his official statement at the resumption of work for the Third Session of the 55th Legislature of the House of Representatives.

According to Speaker Koon, Liberia’s selection to host the continental assembly reflects the country’s growing influence in legislative diplomacy and its continued commitment to democratic governance across Africa.

He described the hosting of (COSPAL) as part of ongoing efforts to reaffirm Liberia’s place in shaping legislative dialogue, cooperation, and best practices among African Parliament Reaffirming his leadership vision, Speaker Koon pledged to lead the House with humility, integrity, and a servant’s posture, guided by the collective will of lawmakers and the best interests of the Liberian people.

“Honorable colleagues, I want to appreciate every one of you for the support and commitment you invested in my leadership following the recent transition of power. I promise to lead with humility,” he stated. Highlighting key achievements since assuming office, the Speaker disclosed that the House has undertaken the restructuring of its central administrative staff, in collaboration with the Civil Service Agency (CSA).

While acknowledging challenges encountered during the process, Speaker Koon emphasized that the reforms were necessary to build a professional and efficient workforce within the Legislature. Speaker Koon pledged to restore unity and cordiality among lawmakers following a difficult period in the Legislature. “We will ensure unity and cordiality among us to strengthen accountability and transparency in our work,” he said.

The Speaker also lauded members of the Honorable House of Representatives for the confidence reposed in his leadership and urged continued cooperation to advance national development.
