Gbarnga:  In a disciplinary move, four senior officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) have been suspended for various administrative violations, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding police management and operational effectiveness.

Among those suspended is Bong County Police Commander Farsue V. Sheriff, who faces a one-month suspension for inadequate traffic management.

The incident occurred during the nighttime return of the presidential convoy from the reburial of former President Samuel K. Doe and his wife. Reports indicate that Commander Sheriff failed to prevent commercial and private vehicles from entering the convoy’s path, resulting in severe congestion and heightening security risks during a sensitive period.

In addition to the Sheriff, three other senior officers have been penalized in connection with a burglary incident at Joma’s Business Center in Gbarnga. James Kartoe, the Commander of the Crime Services Division (CSD), and Foster Varney, the Deputy Police Commander for Administration, were each given a one-month suspension.

Kartoe’s penalty stemmed from inadequate supervision of the CSD, while Varney failed to act when a suspect in the burglary was reportedly ordered to be released. Furthermore, Patrick Sandolo, the Deputy Commander for Crime Services, received a three-month suspension after allegedly instructing the release of a burglary suspect.

Although reassignment may be forthcoming, Sandolo will not continue in his previous position. These suspensions took effect on August 1, 2025. In light of these developments, Police Chief of Operations Chris Gono has stepped in to lead the Liberia National Police-Bong Detachment as the department manages these administrative transitions.

The actions reflect a broader effort to enhance accountability and operational integrity within the LNP.
