Gbarnga, Bong County:  The Ministry of Health (MOH) has officially launched the construction of a new drug depot in Bong County, a pivotal move aimed at enhancing Liberia’s healthcare infrastructure.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Health Minister Martha Morris, representing Minister Dr. Luis Kpoto, highlighted the collaborative efforts with the Global Fund and Plan International that made this project possible.

“This initiative is a vital step in strengthening Liberia’s health system; we have not had our own drug depot until now,” Morris stated, expressing appreciation for the partnerships involved and the ongoing support from the Global Fund and Plan International.

The depot, which is set to cost over $83,000, is designed to optimize the distribution of essential medications across rural health facilities in Bong County. Harley Feldbaum, Head of Strategy Planning at the Global Fund, reinforced the commitment to this collaboration, emphasizing the goal of effectively serving the Liberian population through the efficient use of resources.

Bong County Health Team Administrator Sam Siakor lauded the project, underscoring its importance for accessibility and efficiency. He noted that the depot will not only serve as a storage facility for medications but will also provide office space, training areas, housing units, and accommodations for guests.

The completion of the project is expected within the next two to three months, promising to significantly enhance health service delivery and medication access for the residents of Bong County. The ceremony was attended by officials from the Health Ministry, Global Fund, Plan International, and local stakeholders, marking a significant milestone for the country’s health system.
