Monrovia: Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has admonished residents of Liberia to uphold the rule of law and trust the justice system of Liberia.

The Liberian Leader wants citizens to follow the law and not to take law in their own hands, especially in the case of mob violence. In a move to restore public confidence in Liberia’s justice system and safeguard national peace, the Ministry of Justice, under the leadership of President Joseph Boakai, launched a landmark National Anti-Mob Violence Campaign aimed at ending the alarming rise in mob justice across the country.

The initiative, unveiled on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in Saye Town, Sinkor, comes in response to a worrying increase in vigilante-style violence often triggered by frustrations over delayed or inaccessible justice services. The campaign seeks to reinforce the rule of law, protect human rights, and strengthen community trust in state institutions.

The Ministry of Justice has partnered with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and other stakeholders to educate citizens on the dangers of mob violence and the importance of lawful redress. Speaking at the launch, President Boakai delivered a message of support, urging Liberians, especially young people, to abandon mob justice and embrace peaceful, legal solutions to conflicts and grievances. “Mob violence has no place in a civilized society.

The rule of law is the most powerful weapon we have to secure justice, stability, and development This campaign marks a renewed effort by my government to address not just the symptoms but also the root causes of violence including youth unemployment and limited access to justice”, the President stated.

The Ministry of Justice has been at the forefront of policy reforms under the Boakai administration, pushing for legal awareness, access to justice in underserved communities, and improved citizen-police relations.

The campaign is a continuation of those efforts and reflects a comprehensive approach to building safer communities. Justice Minister and Attorney General Cllr. Oswald Tweh praised the President’s unwavering support and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to rolling out the campaign across all counties. “We are determined to change the narrative. Justice must not only be done, but it must also be seen to be done, in every community, for every Liberian,” he noted.

The launching ceremony drew an impressive turnout of citizens, community leaders, government officials, and members of the Diplomatic Corps, further signaling national consensus on the need to stamp out mob violence. With this campaign, the Ministry of Justice is not only responding to an urgent crisis but also demonstrating its leadership in shaping a safer and more just Liberia, fully supported by President Boakai’s broader agenda for peace, development, and the rule of law.
