Big Boost for Health Sector As 19-Persons Get Training In Infection Prevention and Control.

Monrovia:  Nineteen health workers from across Liberia have been trained in infection prevention and control. Liberia Infection prevention and control or IPC is a multifaceted approach that aims to minimize the risk of infections in healthcare settings.

It involves a range of strategies and practices, including hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper environmental cleaning and disinfection, and the implementation of standard and transmission-based precautions.

The goal of IPC is to protect patients, healthcare workers, and visitors from harm caused by avoidable infections. The training is aimed at training IPC professionals across all fifteen counties to strengthen the health care system.

Providing an overview of the program Dr Woods – Cheneyon stated that the program was first launched in September 2024 and is structured in three levels Basic, intermediate and Advanced. He said It aims to improve knowledge and skills among health workers, increase the pool of infection prevention Control specialists and enhance capacity to prevent, control and mitigate epidemic and pandemic diseases.

Serving as a keynote speaker Assistant Minister for preventive services Dr Caullau Jabbeh Howe made emphasis on the value of Infection prevention Control (IPC) especially in Liberia’s past public health challenges.”

“What this country has gone through has taught us many lessons, this training is more than a refresher, it’s a lifeline opportunity,” she said. Highlighting the crucial role Infection prevention Control (IPC) played in saving lives and keeping the health system functioning.

Dr Howe encourages graduates to actively implement what they have learned, urging them to be more practical than theoretical. ” This should be 100% practical every one of you must protect yourselves, your patient and your communities” she added.

Meanwhile Dr Ceelia Woods- Cheneyon Director of HQMU and course coordinator acknowledge the Ministry Of Health and its partners for introducing and supporting such meaningful initiative. “We are grateful to the Ministry and all of our partners for embracing this initiative we promise to do our very best always to keep this going ” she said In response the graduates express gratitude vowing to practicalize everything they have been taught during the Three months ” We are so happy to be a part of this impactful training, we promise to practicalize whatever we have learned to serve our communities and country”

The graduation was graced by major stakeholders including Representative from Tubman National Institute of Medical Arts ( TNIMA ) The Liberia Medical Dental Council ( LMDC ) and several development partners noting that it is a multifaceted approach that aims to minimize the risk of infections in healthcare settings.
