Reconciliation, Inclusive Leadership, Women Empowerment, and Advocacy Top Priorities in Senatorial Candidates campaign Platforms

Sanniquelle: As campaign intensified in the upcoming Senatorial By-election in Nimba County, candidates have laid out their manifestos capturing reconciliation, inclusive Leadership, women empowerment, and advocacy as top Priorities as they seek for election.

Speaking at a day-long debate held in Sanniquelle Nimba county Wednesday, on April 16, 2025, Torbor Farngalo highlighted the importance of Inclusive leadership, noting that past governments have often put their political parties and personal agendas ahead of the people’s needs. “I pledge to focus on the overall development of Nimba County and its citizens.” He noted. Candidate Farngalo’s emphasized that inclusive governance reflects a desire for change and how leadership is approached in Liberia.

Also speaking, candidate Mark Gblinwon underscored the need for Peacebuilding, along with enhanced education, healthcare delivery, and agricultural development as pillars that will drive the county’s success. “We must ensure that Nimba’s citizens do not rely on donor aid for survival”. Gblinwon asserted. As the candidate for the Citizens for Change Movement (CMC), Mark Gblinwon stresses the importance of self-sufficiency and empowerment, aiming to strengthen the county’s fundamental sectors if elected.

For his part, candidate Matenokay Tingban noted that Reconciliation and peacebuilding are essential. According to him, Nimba County has faced divisions rooted in personal gains and tribal sentiments, promising to prioritize unity If elected.

Candidate Tingban also highlighted healing and collaboration as vital components for moving Nimba forward, placing an emphasis on bridging divides within the community.

At the same time, candidate Garrison Yealue said his focus will be on lawmaking, representation, and advocacy. “I have proven my dedication by securing significant budget increments for local institutions, including the Nimba County University and the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Hospital,” he added

The candidates’ presentations were organized by the Liberia Media for Democratic Initiatives in collaboration with Local Voices, the Center for Media and Peace Studies, and Internews in Liberia. As the April 22 election date approaches, the electorates are called to reflect on these proposals and make informed decisions.
