Council Of Bishops President Ruben Saenz Arrives in Liberia for Africa College of Bishops Meeting

RIA, LIBERIA, September 2,2026 — Bishop Ruben Saenz Jr., President of the Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church, has arrived in Liberia to participate in the 2026 Africa College of Bishops Meeting.

Bishop Saenz’s arrival marks a significant moment as bishops from across Africa gather in Liberia for the historic meeting, being hosted by the Liberia Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church.

The gathering brings together active and retired United Methodist bishops from across the African continent to reflect, deliberate, and strengthen the mission and ministry of the Church in Africa.

The meeting is being held under the theme, “Deepening Ecumenical Engagement, Expanding Continental Influence and Strengthening Institutional Sustainability,” with Isaiah 54:2 serving as the biblical text: “Enlarge the space of your tent.”

The presence of Bishop Saenz underscores the importance of Africa’s growing contribution to the global United Methodist Church and provides an opportunity for deeper collaboration among church leaders.
