GBARNGA:  The Liberia National Police’s Bong Detachment has apprehended Peter Willie, a student at Cuttington University, in connection with a fraudulent job scheme that deceived over 100 college students in Gbarnga.

Willie allegedly posed as an agent for ArcelorMittal Liberia, luring students from Cuttington University and Bong County Technical College (BCTC) into paying between $10, $30 and $US30 for non-existent vacation job placements in Yekepa, Nimba County.

Reports indicate that Willie, along with an accomplice named Joshua Barkor, established a group chat to advertise these fake job opportunities, claiming that selected candidates would secure two months of employment with the company.

Many victims stated that Willie assured them he had the necessary connections to facilitate these job placements. However, as the expected departure date approached, inconsistencies in Willie’s narrative raised concerns among the students.

One victim recounted, “We were supposed to leave on Monday, July 28, but Peter postponed the trip to Friday without any clear reason. Later, he claimed only 28 would be going due to other students requesting refunds.

He has been avoiding us ever since.” Victims grew increasingly anxious, demanding to speak with Willie’s alleged supervisor at Arcelor-Mittal. His continual refusal to connect them with anyone from the company further deepened their suspicions.

“How can you collect money from over 125 people and later say you’ll only work with 28?” asked another frustrated student. “He refused to let us speak with anyone from Yekepa since the beginning of this process.”

Investigations revealed that Peter Willie is not affiliated with Arcelor-Mittal Liberia in any capacity. Following his arrest on August 2, 2025, he is set to face formal charges and be presented before the Gbarnga Magisterial Court for prosecution.
