One Story of Change, Inspires More Investments for Young Farmers in Bomi

Bomi, July 30,2026– Months ago, Margaret Nigba-Gayedyu, a vegetable farmer in Bomi County, struggled to produce quality crops because of poor-quality seeds and limited irrigation. Today, her vegetables regularly sell out in local markets, allowing her to reinvest in better seeds, fertilizer, and improved composing practices.
Margaret credits her transformation to a hands-on agricultural training programme organized through a partnership between Dukuly International Agriculture Company Inc. and Mercy Corps, with support from the Government of Sweden. The training equipped her with practical farming skills, quality inputs, and access to reliable markets, helping her increase production and improve her income.
In a post on her official Facebook page, Margaret praised the impact of the programme and expressed gratitude to the organizations behind it.
“Thanks to Dukuly International Agriculture Company and Mercy Corps, with funding from Sweden, for supporting smallholder farmers in Bomi County. The hands-on practical training that you gave us at Her Voice Agriculture Farm has improved our technical skills to produce and sell more vegetables.
“On behalf of our organization, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dukuly Farm for your continued support and commitment to vegetable farmers in Liberia. To the Embassy of Sweden, your showcasing of our work and sharing the impact of your generous contribution is an honor for us,” she wrote.
Her story is one of the success stories organizers hope to see among the newly trained farmers.
Building on the success of that earlier initiative, Dukuly International Agriculture Company Inc., in collaboration with Mercy Corps under Project IV, trained another group of 25 young farmers in land preparation, seedbed establishment, and nursery management in Bomi County on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
The training focused on site selection, nursery management, transplanting, pest and disease control, harvest and post-harvest management, as well as market access and linkages.
The programme brought together young farmers from diverse backgrounds. At the end of the training, each participant received improved seeds, fertilizers, and farming tools, including hoes, cutlasses, and shovels. The participants expressed appreciation to Dukuly International Agriculture Company, pledging to make good use of the knowledge and tools provided.
Speaking at the programme, the Founder of Dukuly International Agriculture Company Inc., Khalil Dukuly, said he will continue to champion youth involvement in agriculture by providing practical training and encouraging young Liberians to see farming as a pathway to employment, food security, and economic empowerment.
“I believe involving more young people in agriculture will increase food production, reduce unemployment, strengthen food security, and support the long-term development of Liberia’s agricultural sector”.
With Margaret’s success serving as an example, the newly trained farmers are expected to apply the skills they have acquired to improve their own farms, increase productivity, and contribute to Liberia’s growing agricultural sector.
