Our Personality of the week

Today commemorating Liberia’s Celebration of International WOMEN’s day, we celebrate Activist Thor Peace Mahteh-Boyee.

Peace Thor Mahteh-Boyee is the Director of Programs at Liberia’s Pro-Democracy institution, Naymote Partners for Democratic Development. In her role, she multitasks and coordinates training, writes project reports, supervises program staff, and mentors young women in Liberia.

She is an activist for women’s rights, gender equality, and empowerment. She believes in the ideology of feminism which is promoting equal rights and opportunities for women in all areas of life be it social, economic or political. Peace believes that this can contribute to eliminating gender-based discrimination and promoting gender equality.

As an Activist, Peace acknowledges that the patriarchal system in Liberia dehumanized women for decades, they lived in torture with some traumatized and left many dreams unachieved which is completely a contradiction to the many treaties, protocols, and domestic laws of Liberia. She believes that defying and challenging the status quo by raising awareness of gender-based discrimination, advocating for change in policies, and empowering women can help women find their voices and achieve their dreams.

“I envision a society where my kids and every Liberian child can grow up achieving their dreams without the patriarchal system limiting their potential despite all attempts to silence advocates or activists”.

Peace is wife and a mother to three beautiful kids. She is a candidate for a Master’s degree in International Relations at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida School of International Studies at the Graduate School, University of Liberia. She is a graduate of the African Methodist Episcopal University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication. She also holds post-graduate certificates in Management of Democratic Elections from the University of South Africa and Monitoring and Evaluation from the Liberia Institute for Public Administration.
