Senate Inducts Samuel Kogar, Alerts Him of Senate’s Rules and Responsibilities

Monrovia: The Liberia Senate has inducted Nimba County Senator Samuel Kogar following his election on April 22, 2025, and certification by the National Election Commission
Senate Pro-Tempore, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence during induction ceremony welcomed the Nimba County lawmaker alerting him with the senate’s rules and responsibilities.
In a statement, Pro-Temp Lawrence told Senator Kogar that the Liberian Senate is a house that respect the views and opinions of each lawmaker in a consultative working environment. She stressed that agendas in the Senate are clear and well defined in the interests of the nation.
“Senator Kogar, this is a House of Elders. Here, we lead together by respecting the views and opinions of others, regular consultative meetings and regular reporting by committees as you are already aware, with a clear and well define agenda in the interest of Liberia” she said.
Pro-Tem assured Senator Kogar of a smooth working relationship as he joined at the Liberian Senate. “We look forward to your smooth transition as we embark on the second session of the Joint Legislature”. In remarks, Senator Samuel Kogar affirmed his commitment to a smooth working relationship in the senate. Senator Kogar acknowledged his political attachment with his party but pledged to implement his functions without division and impartiality.
“As a proud member of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), I am fully aware that the task ahead goes beyond party lines. I stand here not just as a partisan politician, but as a national leader. I will work with all of you, regardless of political affiliation, because the people of Liberia deserve unity, not division, they deserve progress, not politics as usual.”
Senator Samuel Kogar was elected on April 22,2025 in the Nimba Senatorial by-election. The election followed the death of former Nimba Senator and God Father Prince Y. Johnson who passed off on 28th November 2024.
The induction ceremony took place in the Senate Chamber on Thursday, May 15, 2025 where Kogar was officially introduced, inducted and seated as a member of the of the Liberian Senate.
Kogar secured the seat with 62,136 votes, representing 52.08% of the total votes cast. His closest contender, independent candidate Edith Gongloe Weh, obtained 40,506 votes, or 33.95%.
The By-election was necessitated by the passing of Senator Prince Y. Johnson, who died at his Paynesville residence on November 28, 2024. Kogar will now serve the remaining seven years of Johnson’s term. Johnson was a prominent and influential political figure in Nimba County.
