Senegalese President Pays President Boakai Courtesy Visit On the Sidelines of UNGA

New York: His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye has paid a courtesy visit to Liberian President Joseph Boakai on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The courtesy visit provided an opportunity for the two West African Heads of State to exchange views on matters of mutual interest and reaffirm the longstanding bonds of friendship and solidarity between Liberia and Senegal.
President Boakai and President Faye reflected on the historic ties between the two countries and their shared commitment to democracy, peace, stability and regional cooperation.
The two leaders discussed opportunities to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in trade and investment, with a view to expanding economic cooperation and creating greater opportunities for the peoples of Liberia and Senegal.
They also exchanged views on peace and security in the West African Sub-region, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, respect for international law and collective efforts to preserve regional stability.
Discussions further touched on the forthcoming election of the next Secretary-General of the United Nations and broader issues concerning the future of the United Nations, the African Union and ECOWAS.
President Boakai welcomed the visit by his Senegalese counterpart, who is the current Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, describing the engagement as a reflection of the warm and enduring relations between Liberia and Senegal.
The courtesy visit forms part of President Boakai’s diplomatic engagements on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
