Monrovia: The Ministry of Justice says it has launched an immediate investigation into leaked video recordings reportedly showing inmates having conversations Monrovia Central Prison

In statement issued late Sunday evening February 22, 2026, the Ministry referenced an interaction between Justin Oldpa Yeazeahn, also known as Prophet Key, and other inmates at the shop within Central Prison noting the recording violates the rights of the inmates.

According to the justice Ministry, the integrity, discipline, and security of Liberia’s correctional facilities are essential to maintaining public trust and upholding the rule of law.

“The footage, which has circulated widely on social media, appears to depict conduct that may constitute a serious breach of established prison regulations and operational protocols treating the matter with the utmost seriousness”.

The Ministry says it has directed the relevant authorities to commence a full and transparent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident emphasizing that
the investigation will be thorough, impartial, and conducted without delay Upon becoming aware of the footage.

The Ministry reiterates that no individual regardless of status, affiliation, or public profile is above the law. If the investigation finds that prison regulations or the law were violated, the Ministry will pursue appropriate administrative, civil, or criminal actions against all persons found culpable.

In addition to pursuing accountability in this case, the Government will review existing oversight and compliance mechanisms within the correctional system and will strengthen procedures where necessary to prevent recurrence.
