Monrovia: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has officially declared that Liberia is fully prepared to participate in the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), scheduled to take place in Belém, Brazil.

Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpowolo described the annual COP gathering as “the heartbeat of global climate diplomacy,” a platform where nations unite to find practical solutions to reduce emissions, strengthen adaptation, and mobilize sustainable financing for climate resilience.

The EPA Executive boss reaffirmed Liberia’s strong commitment to global climate action under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

He highlighted that COP30, running from November 10–21, 2025, will focus on forest and ocean-based solutions, just transitions, and climate finance all of which align with Liberia’s national climate priorities. “This year’s COP is particularly significant as it takes place in the Amazon rainforest, the lungs of our planet,” Dr. Yarkpowolo stated.

“Liberia is ready to engage meaningfully, share progress, and seek stronger partnerships to advance our climate goals.”

Dr. Yarkpowolo Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, further noted that since the dawn of the industrial era, the world has witnessed a steady rise in global temperatures, a development that now threatens food and water security across nations.

“Our farmers are struggling with unpredictable weather patterns that affect their productivity and well-being,” he added, stressing that climate change remains one of the greatest challenges confronting humanity and Liberia is no exception.

The EPA Executive Director reaffirmed the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen climate governance, implement adaptation programs, and promote green growth through sustainable resource management. The upcoming COP30 conference will bring together world leaders, negotiators, and environmental experts to evaluate global climate commitments and develop a roadmap toward a more sustainable and resilient future.
