Ganta, Liberia: The Project Accountable Safe Space Women’s Accountability Room (PASSWAR) has extended its heartfelt appreciation to the people of Nimba County for their robust participation in the electoral process.

The organization celebrates the citizens’ commitment to exercising their democratic rights by voting and emphasizes the importance of such engagement in shaping the future of Liberia. During a Press Conference after the election in Ganta, PASSWAR noted the significant progress in the conduct of the by-election.

The organizations’ reports indicate marked improvements in queue control at polling stations and overall orderliness throughout the election process. Observers have praised the National Elections Commission (NEC) workers for their helpfulness, noting that polling centers opened promptly, contributing to an efficient voting experience for all involved.

While the elections proceeded smoothly without major incidents of Violence Against Women in Elections, PASSWAR underscores the persisting challenges women face in exercising their right to vote. The organization calls for continued efforts to create an environment where every woman can freely and securely participate in the electoral process.

In light of the election results that have declared candidate Samuel Kogar winner, PASSWAR urges all stakeholders involved in the electoral process including citizens, political parties, and civil society to maintain calm and peace. PASSWAR encourages individuals to refrain from spreading distrust, misinformation, or engaging in violent acts, as these behaviors threaten the integrity of the democratic process.

Citizens are reminded to respect the rule of law and promote a peaceful dialogue during this critical period. This sentiment highlights the collective responsibility of every Liberian to protect the nation’s democratic values. PASSWAR is a collaborative initiative comprising various grassroots women’s organizations dedicated to fostering accountability and safeguarding women’s rights in Liberia.

Member organizations include the African Women Leadership Network (AWLN), Community Health Initiative (CHI), Kids Educational Engagement Project (KEEP), Organization for Women and Children (ORWOCH), Paramount Young Women Initiative (PAYOWI), Women Human Rights Defenders of Liberia, Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL), Women of Positive Actions (WOPA), and Sister’s Hand Liberia. The organization reiterates its call for peace and cooperation among all members of society to ensure that the elections reflect the true will of the people.
